Biography

I work on the 16 hectare (~40 acre) ForestGEO plot at SERC. This site is a long-term monitoring effort of forest demography:  growth, survival, mortality, and recruitment of new trees. I assist ForestGEO plots across the temperate zone (primarily North America) to manage data, implement protocols, and increasingly collect data using tablets to improve our overall operations. I maintain over a thousand dendrometer bands at SERC and also at SCBI in Front Royal, VA. I'm often out in the woods measuring those dendrometer bands, maintaining ecological monitoring equipment, and collecting data for various projects. I have measured seedling quadrats on the ForestGEO plot for over a decade.

I assist visiting researchers when they are interested in conducting their own projects at SERC. This involves providing data, using GIS to create maps, and implementing new protocols for field work.
