Since the mid-20th century, oxygen has been plummeting in the world’s oceans and coastal waters. Aquatic life—and the economies they feed—are feeling the effects. In this talk, SERC marine ecologist Denise Breitburg will describe the causes and effects of declining oxygen, how scientists around the world are joining to confront the problem, and what it will take to lead water bodies out of the suffocating darkness.

Our winter evening lectures run every Tuesday at 7pm from Feb. 12 through March 12. Doors open at 6:30pm with light refreshments. Lectures are free; donations are appreciated. No RSVP required—a curious mind is the only requirement. Stay tuned for our monthly series, starting March 19!
