Plastics in the ocean have been making waves for their impacts on marine life, but they have another surprising consequence: Invasive species are able to raft on them all the way across the sea. In this talk, marine biologist Linsey Haram will reveal how debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami carried hundreds of species across the Pacific, where they washed up on the shores of the U.S. and Canada. She’ll also narrate how scientists are exploring the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to see what other species are surviving on pieces of floating trash.

Our winter evening lectures run every Tuesday at 7pm from Feb. 12 through March 12. Doors open at 6:30pm with light refreshments. Lectures are free; donations are appreciated. No RSVP required—a curious mind is the only requirement. Stay tuned for our monthly series, starting March 19!
