I'm interested in the ways microbial communities alter ecosystem functions and how microbe-plant and microbe-microbe interactions can play critical roles in biogeochemical cycles. I have studied nutrient and greenhouse gas cycling in natural and agricultural soils and at SERC I am researching a novel methane source in tree stems. I measure stem fluxes and related microbial communities. I often utilize measurements of stable isotopes, trace gases, environmental DNA/RNA, and microbial habitat properties.
