Fisheries and Aquaculture

Sustainable management of fisheries requires an intimate understanding of the ecology of fished species. We explore the life history, population dynamics, trophic interactions and behaviors of fished species. We seek to understand how fisheries impact fished populations and how resource managers can regulate fisheries for social and economic benefit while maintaining healthy ecosystems and biodiversity. We work closely with the fishing industry to track animal movement and migration, conduct mark-recapture experiments, and conduct fishery-independent sampling using standard commercial fishing gear. We also work closely with resource managers to ensure that decisions are made using the best available science.
