Event Details
Summary: With nearly 8,000 acres of mostly forested land, Parkers Creek watershed forms one of the largest sections of unbroken woodlands in Calvert County, Md. Since its formation 30 years ago, the American Chestnut Land Trust has made great strides to protect it. With the help of private land owners and partners, the Trust has preserved over half the watershed (including half of the Prince Frederick Town Center), and worked with scientists from SERC and other organizations to be good stewards of the lands it owns and manages. Executive Director Greg Bowen will discuss the Trust’s successes, and how land trusts can use science to make land use policy for the common good.
SERC's free evening lectures are held every third Tuesday of the month now through October in the Schmidt Conference Center, from 7-8pm. Doors open at 6:30. Lectures are free and open to all—curiosity is the only prerequisite!
