John Paul Kennedy received his Master's of Science from Florida Atlantic University in 2014. His thesis research outlined patterns of genetic connectivity among red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) populations in the Caribbean, West Africa, and Florida. In Dr. Feller's lab at the Smithsonian Marine Station at Ft. Pierce, Florida he expanded on this research by comparing the genetic effects of climate-driven R. mangle range expansion along both West and East Florida. At present, his research is focused on characterizing the genetic structure of black mangrove (Avicennia germinans) populations along West and East Florida and East Texas.
