My research focuses on the impact of the environment and species interactions on the health of the oceans, from organisms to ecosystems. Before coming to SERC, I studied health and disease in corals and seagrass. As a Smithsonian Working Land and Seascapes Postdoctoral Fellow at SERC, I will be extending my work on marine foundation species to oysters. My postdoctoral research will bridge the land-sea interface in exploring the intersection between oyster reef health and human activities, especially fisheries and aquaculture. This work will help advance the understanding of how environmental conditions and species interactions (including predation, bioerosion, and disease) influence oysters and oyster reefs across the Chesapeake Bay.
