Data for Downloading
This page represents SERC's initial effort in providing its main product, data, quickly and easily to the public at large. It is hoped that these offerings will be expanded in the future and in time online data access will be an integral part of the research pages.
SERC Weather Station Data - July 1967 to December 2000:
This page contains a form for accessing temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind, rainfall, and sunlight data from the weather station adjacent to the SERC laboratory buildings. These weather readings should be regarded as broadly accurate, but not authoritative. Also, there are some gaps due to sensor loss, maladjustment, or addition in later years. The data can be viewed in HTML tables or in comma-delimited text format.
SERC Winter Bird Counts - 1982, 1983, and 1989 - 2000:
This file contains the total number of individuals of each bird species that were seen during a survey of SERC property on one day during the winter of each year. The dates of the surveys are listed in the first row. Surveys were conducted between 0700 and 1600 by 7-22 volunteers. The volunteers were divided into 4 groups; each group walked or drove through 1/4 of the 70 sq km survey area.
SERC CTD Profiles of the Chesapeake Bay:
These data are vertical conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) profiles of the Chesapeake Bay collected during 8 cruises of the research ship R.V. Cape Henlopen in 1999 and 2000. The profiles were collected at nine stations along the main stem of the Bay. At the top of each data file, the ship, station number, latitude, longitude, date, and time are listed.
Salinity Monitors in the Rhode River:
As part of the Coastal Intensive Site Network (CISNet), four salinity monitors were deployed at various positions along the Rhode River to collect data hourly. The compressed comma-delimited text files consist of year, month, day, Julian day, hour, temperature (°C), conductivity (µScm-1), and salinity (ppt). A decompression software program is required to access the zip data files.
SERC Dock Monitoring Data
Water quality data for the Rhode River have been collected at the end of the SERC dock since 1970. Over the thirty year period, water temperature, salinity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen concentration, and pH data were collected. However, as the monitors were upgraded and changed over time, the data changed. Using forms, you may access hourly and daily data from two different periods: 1970 - 1978 and 1980 - 1990.
