| abstract | In August 1967, Dan Higman began recording daily precipitation data at the weather station adjacent the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) laboratory buildings in Edgewater, MD. In March 1994 a tipping bucket rain gauge was attached to an automated Campbell CR10x data logger to record rainfall data every 5 minutes when it occurred. Daily total precipitation was then calculated from this 5-minute data. The data from the tipping bucket gauge and the older rain gauge were combined to yield a daily rainfall dataset that goes from 1967 to present and a 5-minute rainfall database that goes from 1994 to present. These data are in an Access database in the "Rainfall" and "DailyRainfall" tables. |
