SERC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER FAIR

Have you ever been curious about volunteering at SERC with the Education Department? Come to our Volunteer Fair to learn more about the openings and opportunities we have available (ages 18+); from canoe guides and hike leaders to working with pre-K, fish tanks, trails, and more. At noon we'll have a free Soup n SERC talk all about the research that we do here at SERC and our educational programs.

PUDDLE STOMPERS (PRE-K): MAMMALS 9:30-10:30 AM
Parent-Child
Location: Reed Education Center
Start: 9:30AM

These programs are for children ages 3-5 yrs. All classes are $8 a student and siblings are $4 a student (sibling ages 1-2 yrs. or 6+ yrs.).Each class will be based on a book in the nature series by Dr. Seuss. We'll read “Is a Camel a Mammal” and then play fun games to learn the key characteristics of mammals.

CANOE EXCURSION
Special Event
Location: Reed Education Center
Start: 1:00PM
End: 3:30PM
Paddle along the shores of Muddy Creek and the Rhode River to learn about one of the many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. We’ll look for wildlife, eagles, shorebirds, reptiles, and more. This trip is designed for beginning and intermediate paddlers. Basic instruction will be given at the start of the program.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MANDATORY TRAINING FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS

All new SERC Education volunteers are required to attend this training. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer then please call Jane Holly (443) 482.2216. In this course we'll cover safety, first aid, group management, signing up for time slots, and more. This training is also open to returning volunteers as a refresher.

Would you like to be a volunteer with our field trips and school groups that come to SERC? Our main field trip is the Estuary Chesapeake trip, which includes seining, water quality, oyster bar community, crabbing, and plankton stations. Come to this training, no commitment required.
