EVENING LECTURE SERIES: UNDERSEA PARASITE IMPREGNATES MUD CRABS
Evening Lecture
Location: Schmidt Conference Center
Start: 7:00PM
End: 8:00PM
Speaker: Dr. Amy Fowler
Affiliation: SERC Research Associate
The world is full of parasites that can force their hosts to do strange things. One such parasite lurks in the Chesapeake Bay: an invasive barnacle that hijacks a mud crab's reproductive system and impregnates it with parasite larvae—even if the crab is male! In this talk, former SERC Research Associate Dr. Amy Fowler will discuss her research on this parasitic barnacle and how it responds to environmental factors such as salinity and temperature.
