Wetland Canoe Tours

GUIDED TOURS:

During summer and fall, SERC presents guided canoe trips along Muddy Creek for the whole family. Sign up for one of these 2-hour tours and learn about the ecology of Chesapeake Bay wetlands. Find out why fish and crabs depend on wetlands and how scientists study this type of ecosystem.

Trips are usually scheduled every Saturday from April through October, from 9am until 11:30am. See our calendar of events at left for trip schedule.

Minimum age: 6 years. Costs: $12/adult $6/children 13 and under.  Designed for beginning and intermediate paddlers.  Life jacket, canoe, paddle and basic instruction provided with guide.  To register, clck here.

SELF-GUIDED TOURS:

SERC provides complimentary trail maps and brochures for individuals and groups who wish to bring their own canoes or kayaks and strike out on their own to explore the rich and diverse surroundings throughout our 14 miles of undeveloped shoreline. These materials are available at the Reed Education Center upon check-in.

We are open to the public from 9am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday, with the exception of federal holidays. Your last boat should be pulled from the water by 4:00 pm.

There is a $5 per canoe/kayak launch donation requested.

Organized groups and outfitters are required to register and pay in advance by calling
443-482-2388 or sending an e-mail to mcdonaldk@si.edu.

Individuals may register and pay on site the day of launching.
