Smithsonian Science on the Bay: Spring Family Day
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is proud to present two new events (due to the major construction on our site we are hosting two small events instead of the one large Open House). These events will feature a spring and fall picnic and behind the scenes glimpse at our research and science. Visit with SERC researchers to learn about the invasive species that shouldn’t be in the Bay, hold a live horseshoe crab, and learn about how much mercury is in your fish. Visitors may also register for one of three one hour boat rides on the Rhode River ($5 person), try their hand at seining or crabbing, visit an oyster bar community and its creatures, or create a take-home craft. Bring a picnic lunch or register online for food from Panera. You may drive onsite for this event, but you must register online and print a front gate pass!
