Mike McLaughlin - Education Department
Warren Wilson College, Asheville, NC
This summer at SERC I worked with the education department to help teach elementary and middle school students about life in the Rhode river and the Chesapeake bay. This involved leading five different Estuary Chesapeake stations on a daily basis and organizing and leading 2 week long day camps. All of these activities were geared towards environmental appreciation through hands on learning and experiential education. After college I plan to take a motorcycle tour of the United States with a few of my close friends. When we return from our adventure we plan to hike the Appalachian trail. After these travels I hope to join the Peace Corps for a few years and experience different cultures. Finally, I'd like to settle down on a quaint little farm with my future wife and kids, and get a teaching job at a local elementary school. When I retire from teaching I plan to pursue my musical career and produce three or four CD's before going on tour with my friend and musical partner Jon.
