My project, "Comparing demographics of the periwinkle snail Littorina saxatilis in native and introduced populations", compared reproductive trends and population demographics between snail samples collected from Maine and California. This project is part of a larger, ongoing project that tests the assumption that an introduced organism will behave the same in its new range as it did in its old range. From my preliminary analysis of L. saxatilis , the different snail populations do appear to be reproducing differently, resulting in different overall population size structures. After I receive my B.S. in Biology next year, I hope to work as a technician in marine ecology for a year or two and decide what area of specialty I would like to go into before I go on to get my Ph.D. in the same field.
