During my Ecological Modeling Internship with Dr. Weller at SERC, I accomplished several tasks.  I organized and analyzed spatial data describing landscapes in the Upper and Middle Patuxent Watershed.  Image analysis software and geographic information system (GIS) software were then utilized to enter the spatial data into digital databases, which were analyzed.  I assessed and compared the effectiveness of land cover classification systems (EMAP and RESAC) in terms of accurate identification of land cover and land use, as compared to recently acquired reference data.  Lastly, I related nutrient concentrations to land use within the previously mentioned watersheds.  My final project focused on exploring the relationship between nitrate concentration and the proportion of cropland, as well as physiographic differences in that relationship.
