Cylindrotheca closterium syn. Nitzschia closterium - late summer bloom on right

Cells are 30-400µ long, although typically found at 125-150µ, and 2.5-8µ wide. Average total volume is 2746.14 cubic microns. They are solitary and motile. Very common in neritic plankton and easily confused with Nitzschia longissima.
