Zooplankton are tiny aquatic animals with limited swimming ability who are dependent on currents and tides for transport. There are two types of zooplankton:

• Holoplankton: who spend their entire existence in the water column and
• Meroplankton: who only spend a portion of their life cycle (usually the larval stage) as plankton.
