SERC's distance learning programs, all supported by teacher-developed curriculum, bring Smithsonian science into classrooms and homes across the country. By participating in videoconferences, you have the opportunity to talk with expert scientists and educators at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) and possibly venture into places where on-site visitors seldom are permitted to go.
SERC has wireless video conferencing equipment which allows for a unique learning experience. We offer videoconferences from a number of remote venues such as beaches, docks, research vessels, and forests.
Go behind the scenes of science with SERC's interactive videoconferences on topics related to SERC research. Smithsonian scientists and education specialists directly link with your classroom using IP. Each informative videoconference lasts between thirty and sixty minutes, during which time students will participate in hands-on science demonstrations and interact with SERC staff.
SERC is currently offering the following videoconferences:
Technology
SERC uses a wireless battery operated PolyCom VSX 7000 connected through IP.
